Regularly, the media confront us with the latest facts about the reduction of the number of farms, and the lack of possibilities for young farmers to succeed. This is just part of the story, argues Ton Duffhues, Specialist Agriculture and Society at farmers organization ZLTO. He gives an overview of the social and economic difficulties for contemporary farmers and their families, and of their different coping strategies. What happens with them if farming becomes surviving? How can they make their farm more future-proof?
